I recently found this on Facebook, and was instantly taken back in time. Do you remember them? Friendship books? Where you would get all your friends to fill in a few pages answering questions about what they looked like, biggest interests, hobbies and favourite music.
I’m guessing I did this when I was in my pre-teens. Must have been around 9, as I had both a horse and a dog when was 10. There’s no doubt that my biggest interest at the time was animals, in particular horses. And the need to fit in and have friends, as I guess any child that age is obsessed with.
According to this my favourite subject in school was art, least favourite was maths (some things don’t change). My hobbies were horse riding and animals and “good music”. My favourite film was 101 Dalmations and The Lion King, and my favourite music artist was Rednex (Cotteneye Joe, anyone?).
My favourite CD’s were “Absålute music” and “Let’s dance mix” (obviously wasn’t great at spelling English words at that stage – and I’m not even going to comment on my taste in music. Pretty sure I only liked “Let’s Dance Mix” because Cotteneye Joe was on it).
The things I didn’t like was spiders (yup, still have issues with those), spinach and coconut.
My favourite activities were horse riding, skiing and swimming.
The things I wanted the most were a horse, a dog and a CD player.
And last but not least, I wanted to be either an artist, a horse riding instructor or a sales assistant in a pet shop when I grew up.
On some points, my past self and my present self are completely alike. On other points, we couldn’t disagree more. Especially in the music department. If you have a book like this, I suggest you dig it out and have a read. Sometimes looking back is a good thing.
